1 SuperOne Righting FOODS Cub An Open Letter to Our Communities and Customers We are your family grocers - the owners and operators of your local SuperOne Foods, Cub and SuperValu stores. For more than 30 years, we have been fortunate to have a positive working relationship with our employees and the United Food and Commercial Workers union that represents them. It's the kind of relationship that comes from living in a part of our state where small-town attitude, honesty and work ethic - neighbors coming together to serve their communities - still exists. Pequot Lakes Right now, we are attempting to settle a final contract with the Union's new, Minneapolis-based leadership. Unfortunately, the new leadership has, up to now, decided to set aside small-town cooperation in favor of adversarial negotiating tactics and demands. That is not our way. It's not the Brainerd Lakes community's way, and we don't believe it is our employees' way. Union leadership says our offer falls short of the "industry standard." The truth is, there is no industry standard. Wage scales and benefits anywhere, in any industry. are governed by factors like market size and cost of living. The Brainerd Lakes market is far different than Minneapolis, just like Minneapolis is far different than New York City or Los Angeles. Our final offer is substantial and fair. It includes: A 15 percent increase in wages and benefits for our employees over the proposed two years of the contract No increase in insurance premiums (we are absorbing those increases ourselves) . Eligibility for paid time off and bereavement leave, and holiday pay for baggers, carryout, custodial, and general cleanup employees . Our continued commitment to helping support the Union's underfunded pension plan Part of our small-town sensibility means recognizing good faith and fairness when you see it. Our compensation offer is more than double what we have historically offered, and each of those prior agreements had been recommended by prior Union leadership and ratified by our employees. We have negotiated in good faith at every step and our offer is fair by any reasonable measure. It also means being hopeful and, while our offer is final, we remain optimistic that we can finalize a contract. Our employees, many of whom are neighbors and friends, are the faces, hearts and hands of our stores. Our communities rely on all of us, working together, to help make the Brainerd Lakes Area such a wonderful place to call home. Chris Quisberg S&R Quisberg, Inc.
