About
n the rugged, yet beautiful land of Northern Minnesota, Christmas Point Wild Rice Company was born. Larry Olin, the founder, began a small wild rice processing facility in 1979 with hopes and dreams of success. The family lived on Christmas Point Road and used that name for their company. With the help of his wife, Susan, and children, the long hours and hard work slowly paid off. Soon came the expansion of his wild rice facility and the establishment of his name with the local wild rice harvesters. In 1991, the State of Minnesota honored Christmas Point Wild Rice Company with the quality of wild rice production.
Meanwhile, Larry's children continued their education in science, business, and agriculture to contribute to this growing company. At the same time, Susan the gourmet that she is, began creating delicious wild rice soup recipes that she later formulated into dry mixes. Soon the whole family was involved, each member with ideas of their own. Larry and Susan's children, Jody, Jennifer, and Joshua, along with Jody's husband Scott, operate two retail stores along with a 400 acre wild rice farm and processing plant. In 1999 Christmas Point opened in Baxter on Highway 371. It is a 26,000 square foot, three story, amazing structure offering wild rice, furniture, home décor, gifts, and so much more. On a clear Minnesota night, surrounded by wilderness and the reflection of the northern lights across the sky, the family continues to dream of new ideas to continue the Olin family tradition.
